Mentor One™

Twelve 8th grade students x Twelve mentors x Twelve months = 1 Great Experience
Mentor One™ is a pilot program which was specially designed for The Office of Economic Development for the City of Lynchburg, Virginia and Lynchburg Industrial Development Authority.
Using research prepared by the Virginia Employment Commission, four career growth occupations were identified. City of Lynchburg Middle School principals and guidance directors then identified twelve eighth grade students interested in these fields. The Office of Economic Development identified twelve mentors or role models, each a leader in their career field and the community.
Each student and mentor meet monthly on-site at the mentor's business to explore the student's career of choice and the world of work. Students and mentors also attend scheduled field trips at Lynchburg College, Randolph College, Sweet Briar College, and Liberty University. During these visits, students have opportunity to talk with coeds and professors about college life and curriculum, and tour campus.
